Prayer Time
Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
Lord our God,
Mighty God, merciful God,
Sovereign God, saving God,
You are our refuge and strength.
Not our own abilities or assets,
Not our own wisdom or ways -
But You alone are our safe place and the supplier of what we need to make it through each day.
So we will not be afraid -
Even though all around us, we see calamity, chaos, coronavirus, questionable decisions.
Even though the mountains be moved into the sea - the worst may happen -
We will not be afraid,
For You are with us.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Lord our God,
You are our help -
Though we see great raging and tottering,
Unsure about what tomorrow will bring,
You are far greater;
We will not be moved,
For You will not be moved,
And You are with us;
You will hold us fast.
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
Lord God,
You are a “warrior,” and You rescued Israel from the pursuit of the Egyptian armies,
You are the God of armies,
And You have all ability to do anything;
Bring peace, we pray.
Remind us of the great things that You have done in the past,
To remind us that we are not in this alone,
But that it is You, working,
That brings renewal, in our hearts, church, and community.
Come work in each of our hearts and lives,
Do a great work again in us.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Lord,
Calm our restless hearts,
Calm our anxious hearts,
Calm our fearful hearts,
Calm our wandering hearts,
Calm our dis-satisfied hearts,
And show us the fullness of who You are -
Faithfully loving, near,
Forgiving, just,
Compassionate, carrying our burdens,
Sovereign over all, in control of all,
So we do not have to be, and we can still be at peace.
Bring us Your peace,
We pray in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
As We Go
There’s not a moment, day, or circumstance that we do not need our Saviour, our Lord. We are foolish when we think we can make it on our own - and wise when we take all things to Him in prayer and depend on Him for all things.
Make “I Need Thee Every Hour” your prayer.
