Worship from Home, May 10, 2020

Happy Mothers’ Day! As we worship from home, though we may be separate from our mothers and the mother-figures in our lives, we are still incredibly grateful for them and thankful for God placing them in our lives.

As we worship in these strange times of COVID-19, we look to and depend on our great God, our perfect Heavenly Father, for His good care. Follow through this post, pausing to think about each reading, listening to each song, praying at the appropriate times, and listening to the recorded message, for a personal or family worship time at home. Please note - there is information at the bottom of this resource about how to give in this time. As well, there are copies of Our Daily Bread in the front entrance of the church.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Take a moment to pause, breathe, and reflect: What are you weary from? What burdens you? Take to heart Jesus’ promise of great rest.

Opening Prayer

Father God,

On this, the Lord’s Day, we look to You,
Seeing Your good care in our every need,
Your mighty power in our every weakness,
Your faithful love in our every moment.
Turn our eyes to you,
Renew our hearts,
Supply our strength
As we seek and worship You this morning.

Worship

Isaiah 40:28-31

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God',
the Creator of the whole earth.
He never becomes faint or weary;
there is no limit to his understanding.
He gives strength to the faint
and strengthens the powerless.
Youths may become faint and weary,
and young men stumble and fall,
but those who trust in the LORD
will renew their strength;
they will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not become weary,
they will walk and not faint.

Worship with us as we listen and sing along to “All Hail The Power of Jesus’ Name”

Ephesians 2:1, 4-10
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins… But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

Listen and sing along to “O Great God” -

You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me

Prayer Time

Matthew 6:9-13

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Take this time to bring to God any specific needs on your heart and mind.

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Think about this truth as you listen to “Yet Not I, But Through Christ in Me”

Father, our good & perfect Father,
You have called us Your children,
adopted through Christ,
fully loved.
We honour Your name today as holy.
We love You.

How amazing it is to be called a child of the King - yet that is what we are; Your reign goes to the ends of the earth. Lord, reign in our hearts and lives; may be willing to do Your will, following Your way, each day.

Father God, You see what we need each day - physical, mental, emotional needs. Healing, strength, wisdom. We pray for this, thankful for Your new mercies each day.

We confess that we do sin. Lord, we have not loved You as we ought, we have not obeyed You as we ought, we go our own way. Forgive us our sin.

Help us as we face temptation. Give us strength to resist the enemy. As alluring as sinful desires may be, give us strength to stand fast, stand against. Keep us from evil; help us to respond to evil in godly ways.

We pray these things in Jesus’ name.

Message

In your Bible, read and meditate on Philippians 2:12-18
12 Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.
14 Do everything without grumbling and arguing,
15 so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world,
16 by holding firm to the word of life. Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing.
17 But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
18 In the same way you should also be glad and rejoice with me.

Questions for Discussion

-How can you keep Christ forefront in your mind more? How will you respond differently in light of His grace and love for You? How will you be conscious of living before Him each moment?
-What are areas you may be tempted to grumble and argue in? How can you see good and encouragement in those areas instead?
-In areas of hardship or suffering, where is God good and helping You? Meditate on His goodness and rejoice.

As We Go

Make “Jesus, all for Jesus” your prayer as we close today.

Hebrews 13:20-21
Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus—the great Shepherd of the sheep—through the blood of the everlasting covenant, equip you with everything good to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
