These are extraordinary times. Though we are unable to gather together for worship this morning due to the precautions surrounding COVID-19, we still have an opportunity to worship at home, and as we each do so, we do so together, united in spirit as we seek God together. Follow through this post, pausing to think about each reading, listening to each song, praying at the appropriate times, and listening to the recorded message, for a personal or family worship time at home. Please note - there is information at the bottom of this resource about how to give in this time. As well, there are copies of Our Daily Bread in the front entrance of the church.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Take a moment to pause, breathe, and reflect: What are you weary from? What burdens you? Take to heart Jesus’ promise of great rest.
Opening Prayer
Lord our God,
You invite us to draw near to You,
With our weaknesses and weariness and waywardness,
For the rest for our souls is found in You.
Give us a fresh vision -
A renewed sight of Your faithful love,
Your mercies, new every morning,
Your gospel that saves and gives life.
You invite us to draw near to You,
For You are near, You are here,
You are Immanuel, God with us,
So we will not fear; we will rest in You.
As we worship, renew our souls.
In Your name we pray,
Amen.
Worship
Hebrews 12:1-3
Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways.
In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son.
God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory
and the exact expression of his nature,
sustaining all things by his powerful word.
After making purification for sins,
he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
“We shall never find happiness by looking at our prayers, our doings, or our feelings; it is what Jesus is, not what we are, that gives rest to the soul. If we would at once overcome Satan and have peace with God, it must be by ‘looking unto Jesus.’
Keep thine eye simply on Him; let His death, His sufferings, His merits, His glories, His intercession, be fresh upon thy mind; when thou wakest in the morning look to Him; when thou liest down at night look to Him.”
Charles H. Spurgeon.
Worship with “Turn Your Eyes.”
Psalm 63:1-5
God, you are my God;
I eagerly seek you.
I thirst for you; my body faints for you
in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.
My lips will glorify you
because your faithful love is better than life.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
at your name, I will lift up my hands.
You satisfy me as with rich food;
my mouth will praise you with joyful lips.
As we worship this morning, may it not be simply a rote exercise,
but a genuine thirst for God, a hunger for Him to satisfy us,
eagerly seeking Him.
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Prayer Time
James 4:6-8
But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Psalm 146:3-6:
Do not trust in nobles,
in a son of man, who cannot save.
When his breath leaves him,
he returns to the ground;
on that day his plans die.
Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea and everything in them.
He remains faithful forever.
Listen and worship to “My Worth is Not In What I Own.”
I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest Treasure,
Wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other.
My soul is satisfied in Him alone.
Message
In your Bible, read Philippians 3:1-11 slowly and meditatively.
“In addition, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. To write to you again about this is no trouble for me and is a safeguard for you.
Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh. For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the Spirit of God, boast in Christ Jesus, and do not put confidence in the flesh—although I have reasons for confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; regarding the law, a Pharisee; regarding zeal, persecuting the church; regarding the righteousness that is in the law, blameless.
But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ. More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ—the righteousness from God based on faith. My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death, assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead.”
Questions for Thought
-Count your blessings today: what good has God brought into your life? Take a moment in prayer to thank Him for these things.
-What losses, big or small, have you experienced? How will you give these over to Christ and consider Him as better than these things?
-What things are hard to give up? How is Jesus better than these things? How can you hold these things loosely, enjoying them but not worshiping them?
As We Go
As we close, make “Draw Me Nearer” your prayer today.
Romans 8:35-39
“Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
As it is written:
Because of you we are being put to death all day long;
we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
