Sermon: Gentle as He is Gentle

God is Gentle

Isaiah 40:10-11

See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power,
  and he rules with a mighty arm…

He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Psalm 103:10
“He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve
or repaid us according to our iniquities.”

Hebrews 5:2
He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.

Matthew 11:28-29
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

We are to be Gentle

1. Character 
Colossians 3:12:
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with… gentleness.”
Ephesians 4:31: “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted”

2. Conversations

Proverbs 15:1 – “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

3. Conflict

Philippians 4:4-5 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”

4. with those Caught in sin

Galatians 6:1 “Brother and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.”

5. in our Culture

Titus 1:2 “Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities… and always to be gentle toward everyone.”

1 Peter 3:15 “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

6.as we Care

John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
